I always wanted to visit San Francisco! This summer I got to! How amazing is that?!
Of course I wanted to cycle there but could not conceive of navigating the crazy hills. The solution courtesy of my husband: electric bikes!
I was skeptical at first...i thought: where's the exercise in an electric bike? isn't it cheating? it's not a real bike!
Putting my skeptism aside long enough to try something new...I started pedaling. It was a little nerve wracking at first not knowing how the thing worked and having received a 5 minute tutorial. Overall though, I have to say it was a lot of fun. Also, many of the places we biked were accessible because of the electrical aptitude of our two wheel contraption. Happy times! We could intermitently cycle manually and then go to electrical when needed. It was not a workout but it was so much fun!
This was a great city to bike! The cycling culture was friendly and there were many streets that had designated bike lanes. I even saw a bike stop light like the ones in Amsterdam! Very impressive.
Tips for cycling in San Francisco:
cycle in the designated bike lanes on the rodes
when taking hills be prepared to walk the bike if needed or if you're adventurous and slightly less skeptical than me try the electric bike
don't miss the Golden Gate Bridge! (there are bike trails by the bridge that offer an amazing view)
there are a number of bike friendly parks with trails
lots of bike rental places in town
